So, what’s happened this week?
Well, I am learning why more people don’t make albums this way. Or at least, good albums ;-)
The main reason is… simply the sheer number of jobs to be done.
To give you an idea, I am: writing all the music, composing all the arrangements, playing all the instruments, engineering the recording sessions, editing and mixing the music, doing the sound design and will be (at some point) mastering the whole album.
Each of these jobs would traditionally be done by one person, or a team of people.
So there are a lot of hats.
That said, this is still be my preferred method. I enjoy each of these areas, and they all feed back into one another. Also, what this means is that when the record comes out, it will be 100% mine. It will either stand up or fall down, but either way it will be wholly my own. This is important.
I’ve been rolling video on some of the sessions. (Because, y’know, why not? ;-) ) This is interesting. The footage is pretty raw, but I still may post it in some form at some point.
I don’t really have a detailed plan, so much as I have an endpoint and an intuition. When I start planning things out in too much detail, they lose their shine for me, I prefer to focus on where I am and what I feel to do in that moment. So I only know stages in hindsight.
I am, however, given to analysing how I am able to do the things I do that bring me joy so I can share that knowledge with others. That is actually one of the principal reasons that this blog exists. I want people to be able to benefit from my experience, both positive and negative.
I’ve been thinking about it, and I think one of the biggest reasons I am able to do this thing now is: I have a rock solid support structure.
The two most important things in my life are: doing what I do, so I can give it to people; and the chosen family that I have been gifted with.
For me, there is no doing the former without the latter.
My partner, and my closest friends believe 100% in what I do and why I do it. They are literally my foundation.
I think that this is may be the most important lesson you can learn, if you want to accomplish something which is outside of the box.
It’s all about the team, kids. ;-)
Until next week.
[68 days to go]
P.S. If anyone wants to know anything specific about the process, the record or me, just post a question in the comments section (just below this) and I’ll answer it there, or in an upcoming blog. Nothing is out of bounds. Hope you are well.

Also, every month I send out a newsletter packed with Interesting and Exclusive Things. If you sign up today you’ll also get 3 FREE tracks of my music as a welcome gift.
And lastly, if you’d like to find out what I’m up to on a more day-to-day basis then here is my brain on Twitter:
